The holiday shopping season is always an excellent time to buy a new Windows laptop, but shoppers looking to spend in 2023 seem especially spoilt for choice. The Asus Zenbook 14 OLED UM3402 tries to stand out from the pack with an AMD processor and OLED display. It mostly succeeds, though its CPU and GPU performance fall behind some alternatives. Read on to learn more.

Asus Zenbook 14 OLED: Specs and features
The Asus Zenbook 14 OLED UM3402 is powered by an AMD Ryzen 7 7730U processor. It has eight cores and 16 threads, which sounds like a lot, but buyer beware: this is a rebadge of the older Zen 3 architecture, not the Zen 3+ or Zen 4 architecture found in more expensive AMD-powered machines.
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7730U
- Memory: 16GB LPDDR5
- Graphics/GPU: AMD Radeon Graphics (integrated)
- Display: 14-inch 2880×1800 OLED touchscreen
- Storage: 512GB SSD
- Webcam: 1080p
- Connectivity: 1x HDMI, 2x USB-C 3.2, 1x USB-A, 1x 3.5mm audio, 1x MicroSD card reader
- Networking: WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3
- Biometrics: Fingerprint reader
- Battery capacity: 75 watt-hours
- Dimensions: 12.35 x 8.69 x 0.67 inches
- Weight: 3.06 pounds
- MSRP: $869.99
Asus sent me the full-fat version of the Zenbook 14 OLED UM3402, which pairs the Ryzen 7 7730U with 16GB of RAM and a 512GB solid state drive for $869.99. An entry-level model with AMD’s Ryzen 5 7530U, 8GB of RAM, and a 256GB solid state drive is available for $699.99. I expect that model to significantly lag the performance of the variant I tested, but the less expensive configuration retains the OLED touchscreen.

Asus Zenbook 14 OLED: Design and build quality

IDG / Matthew Smith
Asus’ Zenbook laptops, which once stood out thanks to their flashy “concentric circle” design, went back to basics in recent years. That’s a bit disappointing. The Asus Zenbook 14 OLED UM3402 doesn’t look bad, but it doesn’t look great, either. It’s just another black laptop with a subtle metallic luster when the light hits it just right.
Whether the design is attractive is subjective, but it leads to more tangible problems. The laptop’s lack of texture makes it difficult to identify the laptop by touch and more likely to slip out of your hands. Asus includes a large rubber foot along the bottom-front edge of the chassis, at least, which provides a grip when picking up the laptop from the front.
The ho-hum design is a shame, because the Zenbook 14 has an edge over its peers in build quality. The chassis uses thick metal across the exterior to beef up rigidity, and it works. Display flex is minimal and the laptop feels rock-solid when handled from a corner or edge. Most alternatives from Acer, Dell, and HP suffer more display wobble, and those that use a plastic chassis often allow visible flex when held by one corner.
The Asus’ size is nearly identical to alternatives like the Lenovo ThinkBook Gen 6, Acer Swift 14, Dell Inspiron 14, and HP Pavilion Plus 14. All of these laptops use thin display bezels on three sides to achieve a slim, svelte profile similar to older 13-inch laptops. Weight is a similar story, though the Zenbook 14’s 3.06 pounds of heft does place it towards the lighter end of the spectrum of sub-$1,000 laptops. It’s easy to fit in a backpack or messenger bag, and you’re unlikely to notice its presence once stowed.
Asus Zenbook 14 OLED: Keyboard, trackpad
My hands immediately found a comfortable flow across the Zenbook 14 OLED UM3402’s keyboard. While some keys (such as Tab and Backspace) could be larger, the alphanumeric keys are easy to find and have good spacing between them. There’s plenty of space along the palm rest, too, which makes the keyboard comfortable to use for hours at a stretch.
Key travel is not as impressive. There’s healthy key travel and a good sense of key activation, but the bottoming action feels vague. It works, but it’s not crisp, and it’s one aspect of the laptop that doesn’t feel as premium as it could.
Asus’ touchpad is typical for an inexpensive Windows laptop. It measures almost exactly five inches across and roughly three inches deep. That’s enough space to use most multi-touch gestures comfortably, though the depth felt a bit limiting while scrolling.
The touchpad serves double-duty as a numpad, a feature the Zenbook 14 shares with many Asus laptops. A long press of the numpad icon on the touchpad activates a backlight which displays numpad keys. 14-inch laptops aren’t physically large enough to include a numpad, so this feature is an advantage over Asus’ competitors, but it’s not a substitute for a real touchpad.
Asus Zenbook 14 OLED: Display, audio

IDG / Matthew Smith
Asus was quick to adopt OLED panels when they became more widely available in 2021, and the Zenbook 14 OLED UM3402 is no exception. It has a 14-inch OLED touchscreen with a resolution of 2880×1800 and HDR support.
It’s a wonderful display that punches well above the Zenbook 14’s modest price tag. OLED’s effectively infinite contrast ratio provides deep, convincing shadows that draw your eye into the display. That’s paired with top-notch color performance and a wide, vibrant color gamut.
The display looks great on the Windows desktop, and in day-to-day productivity apps like Word, but really stands out in entertainment like Netflix or your favorite PC game. Content creators will also find a lot to like in the display’s color gamut, which achieves 100 percent of DCI-P3 and 94 percent of AdobeRGB. It’s suitable for a wide variety of amateur and professional content creation.
Sharpness is another perk. The display’s resolution of 2880×1800 works out to roughly 243 pixels per inch. That’s more than a MacBook Air 13 and greatly outperforms competitors that stick with 1080p or 1200p resolution (which pack in roughly 160ppi). Small fonts are easy to read and high-definition video looks crisp.
Brightness is the only notable downside. The Zenbook 14 OLED UM3402 achieved a maximum SDR brightness of 357 nits. That’s enough for comfortable use in most situations, but the display’s glossy finish allows significant glare. The display is hard to view in a bright room or outdoors on a sunny day.
HDR is supported and performs reasonably well for a budget laptop. I measured a maximum sustained brightness of 549 nits in HDR, which is a significant improvement over SDR and enough to provide some sense of added detail in HDR videos and HDR games. It could be better, but remember: this is a sub-$1,000 laptop. I’ve tested $1,000 monitors with less impressive HDR.
Asus Zenbook 14 OLED: Webcam, microphone, biometrics
Asus crams a 1080p webcam in the Zenbook 14 OLED UM3402’s top bezel. It achieves a crisp image with good color reproduction, yet also allows plenty of noise into the picture. The result is usable for video conferencing but can appear grainy and busy.
I was even less impressed by the microphone. It recorded my voice with adequate volume but had a hollow, compressed quality. I also noticed the microphone’s noise rejection reduced the volume of my voice when I tilted my head too far away from the center of the display.
You’ll find a fingerprint reader built into the power button. It’s a convenient and quick alternative to typing in a password or PIN but, like most fingerprint readers, it’s unreliable if your finger is slightly wet or dirty. Cheeteo fans need not apply.
Asus Zenbook 14 OLED: Connectivity

IDG / Matthew Smith
USB-C provides the bulk of the Asus Zenbook 14 OLED UM3402’s connectivity through a pair of ports on the laptop’s right flank. Both support USB Power Delivery and DisplayPort Alternate mode, meaning both can be used to charge the laptop or connect to an external display. The laptop ships with a USB-C power brick to charge the laptop through these ports.
The Zenbook 14 also had an HDMI 2.1 port, a USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 port, a 3.5mm audio jack, and a microSD card reader. It’s a reasonable range of connectivity, though I would have liked to see another USB-A port. Ethernet is missing, but this is typical for many laptops sold in 2023—and Asus provides a USB-A to RJ45 (Ethernet) adapter in the box.
Wireless connectivity includes the latest Wi-Fi standard, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.3. Support for both is boilerplate for a modern laptop at any price point, but it’s good to see Asus doesn’t cut corners here. Wi-FI performance was solid in my testing with no unexpected dropouts.
Asus Zenbook 14 OLED: Performance
The Asus Zenbook 14 OLED UM3402 I tested had AMD’s Ryzen 7 7730U processor, an eight-core, 16-thread processor with a maximum Turbo Boost speed of 4.5 GHz. It’s paired with 16GB of memory, a 512GB solid state drive, and integrated AMD Radeon Graphics with eight Compute Units.
These specifications set the stage for a showdown between AMD and Intel. The Asus Zenbook 14X OLED, which I reviewed several months prior, shares many specifications with the Zenbook 14 UM3402 but instead equips Intel’s Core i5-13500H. The two are similarly priced, as well (the 14X OLED has an MSRP of $799, while the 14 UM3402 is $869.99).

IDG / Matthew Smith
PCMark 10, a holistic system benchmark, turns in a respectable score of 5,812. That easily outpaces the Zenbook 14X OLED with an Intel Core i5-13500H, which only scored 5,089. However, there’s an important caveat. The 14X OLED only has 8GB of memory, and this does seem to harm its score in this benchmark. The Zenbook 14 does very well here, but it’s not clear if AMD’s Ryzen 7 7730U deserves the credit.

IDG / Matthew Smith
Cinebench R20, a heavily multithreaded CPU benchmark, again places the Zenbook 14 OLED mid-pack with a score of 4,289. This time, however, the Intel-powered alternative squeezes ahead with a score of 4,724. I found this a bit surprising, as Intel’s Core i5-13500H has just 12 physical cores—four less than AMD’s competitor.

IDG / Matthew Smith
It’s a similar story in Handbrake, where the Ryzen 7 7730U turns in a relatively lackluster performance. It required over 31 minutes to transcode a 1080p movie from .mp4 to .mkv using the H.264 codec, which is nearly two minutes longer than the Intel-powered alternative. The AMD-powered Zenbook also lands quite short of other small laptops though, to be fair, the Lenovo Slim Pro 9, Samsung Galaxy Book3 Pro 360, and HP Dragonfly Pro are more expensive.
The CPU benchmarks show the Ryzen 7 7730U is a capable processor, but does fall a bit short of Intel’s Core i5-13500H. It also tends to underperform the Intel Core i7-1360P. This doesn’t sink the Zenbook 14’s forturnes, as this level of performance is adequate for a sub-$1,000 laptop.
Why is this the case? It’s because the Ryzen 7 7730U is built on AMD’s older Zen 3 architecture, not the Zen 3+ or Zen 4 architecture found in more recent AMD chips. Don’t get me wrong: the Zenbook 14 OLED feels plenty fast while browsing the web or working in Microsoft Office. However, shoppers hoping to snag superior CPU performance on a budget should consider an alternative.

IDG / Matthew Smith
The Zenbook 14 falls short in graphics performance, too. That might seem strange given the hype behind AMD’s integrated Radeon graphics but, once again, the details matter. The Ryzen 7 7730U relies on AMD’s Vega GPU architecture, which is now a couple generations out of date. It also has just eight Compute Units, four less than the 12 Compute Units found in top-shelf Ryzen mobile processors.
Real-world games struggle, too. Shadow of the Tomb Raider was unplayable at 1080p settings, as it achieved an average of just 15 frames per second (FPS) even with detail set to Low. Reducing the resolution to 720p improved performance to a barely-passable 31 FPS but, even then, the game took lengthy detours below 30 FPS.
Put simply, the Zenbook 14’s graphics performance is poor, and it makes the laptop a bad choice for PC gamers.
Asus Zenbook 14 OLED: Battery life
The Asus Zenbook 14 OLED UM3402 combines a power-sipping Ryzen 7 7730U processor with a surprisingly large 75 watt-hour battery. That sounds like a recipe for strong battery life—and it is.

IDG / Matthew Smith
I saw an excellent 15 hours and 20 minutes of endurance in PC World’s standard battery test, which loops a 4K file of the short film Tears of Steel. That’s almost five hours longer than the Asus Zenbook 14X OLED with an Intel Core i5-13500H processor!
This is a light-load test, and I would generally expect real-world battery life to be a bit shorter (10 to 12 hours of general Microsoft Office productivity and web browsing is fair). Still, as the graph shows, the Zenbook 14 clearly outlasts many competitors.
The Zenbook 14 OLED’s portability is further enhanced by its tiny 65-watt USB-C power charger, which measures just 2.25 inches wide and an inch thick. It’s easy to toss in a bag and, if you do forget it, the laptop can be charged by a wide variety of USB-C power adapters.
Asus Zenbook 14 OLED: Should you buy it?
Asus Zenbook 14 UM3402 is a solid entry into the sub-$1,000 laptop arena. It feels more durable than many competitors, packs a gorgeous 14-inch OLED touchscreen, and achieves over 15 hours of battery life. These perks are hampered by mediocre CPU and GPU performance, boring design, and a mediocre touchpad. Whether it’s for you depends on your priorities. Those seeking battery life and a beautiful display should absolutely snag it, while shoppers focused on performance should pass it by.

Highly recommended for anyone looking for a powerful, versatile machine. 👏If you're considering this laptop, don’t hesitate—it’s worth every penny!
Great laptop for more then gaming. It's a good laptop. My first time buying from ROG and I'd say it has been a good buy.The laptop runs everything I throw at it well. I stream edit and work from this computer. The battery is not great during gaming of course. But for mild tasks like note taking surfing the web etc. It does great and is plenty for me during my classes at college. It can get hot while gaming but I always have a little stand for it when I game. The fans and the system it advertises does alot better then I expected and overall is cooler then most laptops I see. Also it looks nice.
Good gaming laptop. This laptop has been good. Good WiFi connectivity is good. Have not had any problem with connectivity. Since this is a gaming laptop the keyboard can have different colored lights. The gaming keys, qwerasdf are reverse lighted, so if I am typing in the dark it is good but in light it can be difficult to see the keys. Durability has been good. I carry it in a padded computer bag. It has a good weight so if you are looking for a light weight computer this would not be good. Cooling is very good for a gaming laptop. I can keep the laptop on my legs without it getting really hot. Design and layout is good. Monitor connection to based looks very good. It has a regular Ethernet port not the collapsible type in thin laptops which I like.
Outstanding. The ASUS ROG Strix G16 is an absolute powerhouse and a dream machine for gamers and creators alike.Equipped with top-tier hardware, this laptop handles everything I throw at it effortlessly. Gaming is buttery smooth even with maxed-out settings, and multitasking is seamless thanks to the powerful processor and ample RAM.The 16-inch screen with its high refresh rate is stunning. The colors are vibrant, the details are sharp, and the fluidity makes fast-paced games feel immersive and responsive.Sleek, modern, and undeniably ROG. The RGB keyboard is customizable and adds a premium feel, while the cooling system is highly effective and keeps the laptop running optimally even during long sessions. For a gaming laptop, the Strix G16 strikes a great balance between performance and portability. It’s lightweight enough to carry around without sacrificing the power you’d expect from a desktop replacement. While gaming laptops are known for short battery lives, the G16 pleasantly surprised me with its efficiency during non-gaming tasks. For the specs and performance this machine offers, it’s worth every penny. It’s an investment that will serve well for years to come.Whether you’re gaming, streaming, or editing, the ASUS ROG Strix G16 is a beast. Highly recommended to anyone looking for a reliable, high-performance laptop!
The laptop performs well, with about 4 months of usage and it is still rock solid.
Very good
Great item for gaming, delivery fast

Good Device for a Good Price. It has worked well so far and is very rugged. Good price and good quality!
Perfect for school or work. Perfect for my teen son. Does everything it says. The model is the X1404 I hadn't seen that in the description. Good quality.
Battery stinks, Runs Loud, Easily Breakable. I got the 2TB, Windows 11 version. It took about an hour to set up the laptop. The updates took the longest. I also downloaded Chrome and Steam. It is lightweight, but the material used to make the laptop is brittle and could easily break. I couldn't find a laptop cover for this Vivobook, if there was one, that might change how I feel about the laptop and the uneasiness I feel about its potential for breaking. The laptop runs hot. The battery doesn’t last more than 4 hours just surfing the web. After surfing the web for laptop covers and keyboard covers for this laptop (which there are none), I fully charged the laptop, then I played a hidden object game for about an hour. The computer was loud, ran very hot, battery drained about 1% every 10 minutes, and the screen was hard to see. The gameplay is dark, but I had to bring the laptop within inches of my face to find items because the screen remained shadowy even on the brightest setting.I like the speed and storage, but that’s about it. It comes in S mode, but disabling it is easy if you want to download Chrome. Windows will walk you through that process. I attached an external storage device, and it recognized it immediately and made it easy to use. But those were the only things I liked. If the battery were better, the laptop didn’t run hot and wasn't loud, and the screen had better settings, this laptop would be perfect for school, surfing the web, storage, and playing simple games.
Best Computer I have ever Owned. I love my new Asus! It is a good, fast, reliable computer with a long lasting battery, wonderful graphics and a heap of capacity.
The Laptop Is Amazing. I bought this laptop to play Starfield and I love this laptop very much.
Battery hours during use is nowhere near the best out there. The only downside to this product is you will get only a few hours of use on battery power before it needs charging. It is adequate for my daily use though. If I am going to use it for long periods here at the house, I keep it plugged in. Functionally, it meets my needs perfectly. The OLED screen is functioning as advertised and is plenty bright indoors. It might not be suitable for use in bright sunlight, and the screen is highly reflective. The touchscreen works as expected. Fans are quiet the majority of the time but will become audible if doing tasks like video editing.I wish it had more ports, but I suppose you can always get a dongle that will supply any ports you might need. The trackpad is adequate and functions well. I don't use it much because I am used to using a mouse, so I disable it. The Keyboard is excellent as far as I am concerned. It has a nice feel and response. It is backlit too. This is a good little laptop for me.I do some video editing but they are simple home movies that do not need any fancy effects. This laptop handles them well. The fans may become audible when doing such tasks. Other than that it is a quiet laptop and hasn't been distracting in any way.If you need more power then you should step up to a laptop that does not use integrated graphics. Get one that has a video graphics card. Also, get one that has more than 16GB of system memory and a Drive with at least 1TB of space to hold your apps. 512GB fills up faster than you think.I cannot comment on the gaming aspect of this laptop since I do not game on it. It would probably run some simple games though. mediocre.I took 1 star off ONLY because the battery does not last as long as I would like after each charge. Other than that, I like this laptop for what I use it for, and since I keep it plugged in most of the time, battery power is not an issue. I suggest you watch several of the YouTube videos that have rated this product to get a better sense on whether this laptop is for you, or not.

Great for my needs. Update: Just took a trip with this new computer. I bought a laptop sleeve for it and I could not be happier with how easy it was to travel with this little thing. My wife always commented on the weight of my backpack and it was mostly the computer. it was so much heavier. In all fairness, it had a metal top and a 12hr battery, so it was going t be heavier. But this is so much easier to carry around. I do notice fingerprints a lot more and the battery life is not as long, but for the price, I'd buy it again and recommend it.I had an Acer business laptop since 2018. It was a bigger, heavy-duty laptop and was also pretty heavy. I was on a cruise the month of March and it just died. I frustratingly searched for a lightweight computer with suitable power for my needs. So many processor options with too many versions of each. Then there was the question of RAM and storage and screens... I also really liked Windows 10 Pro but support for that is ending. Then I realized I don't need a workhorse computer anymore. I settled on this and got the 24GB RAM with 1TB SSD. I don't need the extra storage but I do like RAM. I was searching for a Ryzen 5 processor but in the end this Intel i3 gen 12 processor seems to be just fine for me. It was easy to setup and required about 20min to do. I like the speed and I really like the light weight. The keyboard feels nice. It is not backlit like my previous Lenovo and Acer, but I don't mind. I'm not blown away by the screen, but it is better than the screen on my previous much more expensive unit and fine for me. Also, the touchpad has a number pad feature that can be turned on and off. I think I'm going to like that. I have not tried to install any software yet. I do have Microsoft Office Home also purchased through Amazon (I previously had the pro version). I'm wondering if I'll ever need Office again. That's a decision I'll have to make before the return window closes. My wife and I are traveling a lot more these days and this thin 14" laptop will make it much easier. Everything, including the power supply is smaller and lighter than my previous laptops. That will definitely make this much more friendly for travel.
why is the specs good and the price low? the touchpad. the specs are great for the price, but this has to be the worst touchpad ive ever felt in a laptop lmao. very jumpy and misses movement. the numberpad on the touchpad is totally a gimmick, and not a good one at all. the placement of the off/on button is right where your right hand would brush up against (which is crazy because i can brush my hand on it to turn it on, but i have to smash down on the pad to turn it off, and it doesnt even want to respond to that sometimes). what ends up happening multiple times a day is i turn it off and i think im fine, so im scrolling on something and all of a sudden the calculator is staring at me and it has 6 typed into it. no way to turn it off without turning off the entire touchpad. and i use this for school so of course im gonna be relying on this pad now.oh well. everything else is solid. SSD is great, battery lasts enough for a full day of work, charges very quickly, and its pretty slim. windows 11 is windows 11, love it or hate it. if this laptop was this laptop minus the gimmick touchpad, it would be perfect. if you use a mouse, knock yourself out
Does python development & Xbox well & very affordable. This laptop has been used for a few months by me, I have done python development & played Xbox. The laptop does both well, especially since I only paid $304. The battery lasts longer without Xbox gaming even when coding, it dies charge quickly if plugged in, so if not plugged in expect with typical use atleast 5 hours of battery life, that if you are using YouTube or Tiktok & browsing the internet.
Vivobook model X1404ZA. Blue. The media could not be loaded. This review is for the Vizio book 14 inch, with the i3 processor and 16gb of ram.The model per the computer is x1404za. It's not listed on Amazon but that's what it is.First this has pretty good hardware for the price of ~$300. The processor is about 4x better than the i7 in my old (10 years) laptop. The ram is fast. DDR4 3200 Mt/s which is very good and not listed so figured I'd let yall know.On task Manager it says it has Intel 8gb GPU. But I do not think this laptop has a dedicated GPU. So this might be a semi -lie. Basically it's a software that converts the CPU processor into GPU functions. But that's not the same as a dedicated GPU. Intel doesn't make GPUs anyhow. It's not a gaming laptop (regardless of the 8gb GPU listed) and I don't plan to even try to run games from it. It's probably going to be perfect though for viewing videos or anything like that. It's a work laptop for me so as long as I can do zoom, PowerPoints, and some stats software, it's prefect. The laptop is light weight which will be nice considering I pack it around daily.Additionally the housing is aesthetic. I also really like the number pad option. The screen seems pretty good. I have a 4k TV and looking back and forth, the laptop screen seems about the same quality and resolution even though technically, it's not. But it does look good.Be sure to do all the updates and bios updates when you get it. You will need a Microsoft email to set up Windows. That's how Windows works since a few versions back. Hotmail email works fine.It didn't come with a bunch of bloatware, for once! I appreciate that. Nothing like spending hours removing junk from a brand new PC. Glad they stopped doing that nonsense.Overall , had it a week. Works great. No complaints.
Works well and good performance for basic Web browsing, documents processing, movies watching etc. Bought it for kid's school needs.

Great Chromebook. Well built, and works great. A++
Great price. Super fast pc book love it great for school or college even though you cant burn cd/ dvd it still great for what you needHighly recommended
Great value. Very nice laptop/chromebook
Loses NUMLOCK when I use Chrome Remote. Loses NUMLOCK when I use Chrome Remote. I have to use a screen keyboard to reset NUMLOCK. Keyboard has no NUMLOCK key. Otherwise, machine works flawlessly.
Lightweight, reliable and fast. Lightweight, reliable and fastWe have four at my work for various people who occasionally have to work from home . They are all over ten years old and starting to have short battery life and slow down. I would say they earned their retirement and replacement .
Less usable than I had hoped. I hoped to use this device more than I do. It works okay for Google functions - gmail, et al. It is difficult to find apps that really leverage the screen real estate. The device works fairly well as a front-end to a remote PC and slightly less well as a front-end to Microsoft 365 Apps. Order a USB light. The keyboard lacks back-lighting.
Good buy. So glad I bought this. My kindergarten needed one for all the homework. I use it as well. Easy set up. Glad I got it.
Good Purchase. Made this purchase for my son to complete online schooling and it has been perfect for just that. Battery life has been excellent and it is a pretty good sized laptop.

Fantastic price to performance ratio if you're not into gaming. I originally bought this computer with the intentions of programming on the go.Let's get the bad out of the way first. This laptop is not designed, nor advertised for gaming by any stretch. You'll be able to get away with some older games but forget about getting reasonable performance at reasonable graphics levels on anything more modern. We're talking just barely getting 60fps on Spyro: Reignited Trilogy at 720p, lowest graphic preset. But that's impressive for not being a gaming laptop. Just keep your expectations in line. The good: This thing is blitzing fast in practically every other regard. This is where the SSD and CPU really take center stage. Everything is incredibly responsive and installs are very painless. Overall usage had me forgetting I wasn't on my desktop at times, so I give this a laptop a solid A+ in that regard. Boot times are damn near instant and restarting to finish installing applications happens in under 10 seconds.Battery life has yet to be tested very well so I can't comment too much on that just yet. I'll update when I get more usage out of the battery but from the get go, it seems pretty standard.Screen quality is again very standard. It's not winning any beauty contests compared to a decent ISP panel but again, it's not advertising itself as being anything spectacular in that regard. You get what you pay for and with this laptop, you're paying for the SSD/CPU performance which it absolutely nails.Style: I absolutely love the way this laptop looks. It's clean, sleek, and professional. Nothing over the top but doesn't look or feel cheap. Build quality is very solid. Obviously it's no MacBook in terms of build quality but it's also less than half the price of a MacBook so again, you get what you pay for.Sidenotes: My first unit had an odd manufacture defect on the screen; A white blotch that was only visible under certain conditions, namely over more muddy colors like off shades of white, dark blues, etc. It was incredibly distracting but I contacted Amazon who stayed on the line with me while we discussed possible solutions with ASUS and ultimately resulted in Amazon sending me a replacement unit in less than two days. The new unit has none of these issues and looks to be exactly what I was looking for in the first place. So good on both ASUS for making a decent laptop and Amazon for honoring the exchange.
Great quality laptop for the money. I bought the Ryzen 5/ 256GB SSD variant. At $479 in Nov of 2020, with a 15'6 screen, backlit keyboard with numeric keypad and these specs, this is a fantastic laptop for the money. The quality of the screen is great and the keyboard pretty comfortable. The sound is also remarkably good, in case you need to watch something through the built-in speakers.I installed Linux straight away, so I can't review its performance under Windows, but on Linux it works definitely great. This configuration means 8 cores, and everything got recognized and was working flawlessly from the start (at least on Arch Linux, you may get different results with more conservative distros). I haven't come around configuring and testing the fingerprint sensor yet though. My usage is mostly browsing, office tasks, watching movies and programming.I am not a gamer, but do play Minecraft with my son from time to time. It does work pretty well, once you reduce the max framerate from the default 160 or so to a more reasonable 30FPS. The video card setup is definitely not good if you plan to play other more graphics intensive video games, but for the ocassional game, this would also do.As other user reported, the looks are also great, surprisingly good at this price range. It does have some Macbook vibes, which is always nice, and definitely not expected at this price. My only negative remarks are that despite the extended keyboard, the insert key requires pressing the Function key, so there is an extra complication if you use the Ctrl+Ins, Shift+Ins for copy and paste. Also, as reported in other comments, out of the 8GB of RAM, 2 are dedicated to the video card, so you actually have 6GB for the system. Wait till you receive it, and open it to check if you have the one with a SODIMM module of 4GB. I did so and ordered an 8GB module for not much, to upgrade it to the max possible total of 12GB of RAM (10GB for the system). All in all, another perfectly rounded laptop by Asus. At this price and specs there is really no other competitor. Very satisfied with my purchase.I don't have time to write many reviews, but this laptop definitely deserved a good one.
This is the 3 Asus computers, on 9” xp, and one Asus 9” win 10 and now a new win 10 with everything
I was looking around for a laptop, including many more expensive options, before I settled with this one.The laptop is very fast with the NVMe M.2 SSD, with a disk benchmark, I was able to reach 1.6 GB (that is gigabytes, not gigabits) read speeds per second, and 900 MB/s write speeds per second.I got this on sale, and for under $600, a Ryzen 5 quad core, 8GB DDR4 ram and 256GB SSD, it is excellent value. Not to mention the great feel of the chiclet backlit keyboard. The performance of the Vega 8 integrated graphics, is better performance than any Intel integrated graphics would be. The fans is a little audible when running HD video or more intensive tasks, although still very quiet. The battery life is average, although it can be a little bit above average if you set your settings to battery saver. Still, it should last a few hours at the least. Just a quick note, there is 6GB usable RAM rather than 8GB, as 2GB is permanently allocated to the AMD Ryzen Vega 8 GPU. Also, when first turning on the computer, there is noticable backlight bleed on the bottom two corners of the screen, while the screen is on though, the screen has good picture. The pictures for this laptop does not do it justice, I was pleasantly surprised when I received the laptop - the laptop looks better in person than it is advertised! All in all, this is the best laptop one can get for the price, hands down. Definitely recommend it for anybody who is looking for a laptop that won’t put a dent in their wallet. Good job Asus.

Duuuuuuude very nice laptop. Doing great so far, i obviously had to upgrade the ram/memory whatever you wanna call it lol i play rust and it functions well graphics are amazing to me, price is decent for a starter laptop for gaming easy to navigate its actually a really impressive pc, but upgrade the memory capacity and its even better, color is great keyboard lights are cool idk what else to say im old so dont take much to impress me with new tech but id recommend this pc to any one its fast as heck and quite battery is still lacking but i think thats most laptops lol but overall i really dig it and if you know rust then you know it dont take much to crash your pc so thats a huge win for this pc i put in 2 16gb memory sticks for 36 gb it runs flawlessly. Happy gaming!
In ASUS I trust. I have become an ASUS user since 2017 when I bought an FX53VD (the ancestor of TUF series) and now, 8 years later, I buy a new TUF. I really like the solid structural design and the robust technical performance of ASUS gaming laptops, after all my senior ASUS laptop has worked 8 years and is still running well now.By the way, I would like to mention that I use this laptop for daily office work only (I don’t play video games). The reason for buying a thick-and-heavy gaming laptop is that since say 2020, the frequency of CPUs has been insanely increased by the manufacturers while the chassis of light-and-thin laptops remains the same substantially: those useless laptops heat up very easily and the cooling fans sound like helicopters. With an ASUS gaming laptop, you can rarely hear the cooling fans running when you only do normal office work, and that is perfect for me who is sensitive to noises. One last tip: uninstall the Armoury Crate (a programmr developed by ASUS to control the power and cooling fans) and install G-Helper instead!
Dream top. The laptop came earlier than expected and I was so happy. It was so easy to setup and runs my games smoothly, it's TUF(Tough) and it shows. This is good quality laptop with good quality audio and brightness!I bought it because I've been wanting a gaming laptop again after my last one broke and this one was definitely worth the money, every dollar I spent on this was well spent and I look forward to doing business with ASUS again in the future. It's safe to say that I'm very pleased with my purchase and will do it again
Very Nice, BUT. It's a very nice computer with moderate performance. It works exactly how it's priced. Think of 'get what you pay for' in this package. It'll play games well enough without hiccups if everything is on medium settings for newer games, and very smoothly on semi-older games with high settings.Do not expect to play games such as Body Cam. It's doable, but the framerate is <30 and sometimes it'll look like a slidehsow if it feels like it doesn't wish to work that hard. It's been a mixed bag between each match. It took it a moment to properly 'wake up' when first getting it. Booting up the thing and getting everything set up may take a moment, but once you have it kicking, it'll keep up with your pace. Heat isn't too bad so far, putting it through a few things and it has gotten warm, but not hot.The weight isn't bad. Though don't take my word for it, it's my first laptop. Now here comes that 'but' part. Battery life is pretty much nonexistent. Keeping it off the charger and playing any type of game destroys the battery life. Fully charged, use the computer, unplugged, and the thing warned me about an hour fifteen minutes in that the battery is nearing it's end. Check the battery itself and it says "5%" and it has 6min of life left. So think of each percentile being ~1min of battery.Other than that 4/5,TL;DR: Medium price for Medium rig, Battery life abysmal without it plugged in. 1% = ~1min
Multiple issues. Junk. 3 months of very little use just doing basic tasks for work and the fans wont shut off even when sleeping, fan controller does not work or impact the fans, backlit keyboard randomly works when it wants to, and now I have to boot in safe mode otherwise I just get a black screen with a cursor. Have run a few scans to make sure bios or files are not corrupt and everything always comes back "good". 🙁
Excellent gaming laptop. I've only owned this for a few days, haven't done a bunch of gaming on it, but it does run fortnite smoothly. My friend who is a huge gaming nerd helped me pick it out
Great mid range laptop. Great laptop able to run most of everything reasy to upgrade the ram and ssd. I highly recommend for those who dont want to spend an arm and a leg on a decent gaming laptop.
Love it. Sorry gamers. I am not a gamer. I bought this to pay off for a monthly of 5 payments. However, I do love this laptop. I got it for the memory, big screen, and just to do homework on and stream shows on Prime and Disney+. I do not experience loud fan or noise, and I play solitaire and love it! Noise level seems good to me. Charging is good, and everything works well as what it is supposed to do. I got internet, works fast, and the color changing keyboards is fun! You can come up with your own color changing cycles. I have not experienced this laptop heating or anything. Keyboard is amazing and the screen is pretty huge from my last Lenovo one I had! Hoping to last this for years! I do just plan to use this for school and streaming shows. So hoping this will last longer than my 2-year laptop 🙂

I had no powercord. Best sure there is a power cord included
Space and speed. So far, I am really enjoying my new laptop
It'll do the job. so far so good. Haven't really put it to the test yet.I was surprised it took hours to actually load. I was expecting it to be lightning fast. Tried to access a certain website which also crawled. Nothing out of the ordinary as websites go and works fine on my other devices so not sure what to make of that either. The other thing I overlooked was it does not have a backlit keyboard. I needed that, oh well, I'll pay more attention the next time. The backlit keyboard thing is a dealbreaker for a 5 star review.
Poor communication. Received without the SD card and adapter.
Touch pad response. Very awkward using the touch pad
TLDR: Just buy a different laptop from a more reliable brand. Easily one of the worst experience I have had with a laptopI had the ASUS Zenbook for 2-3 years before buying this laptop. I needed a "better" laptop for Graduate school that meet the programs technical requirements so I chose a Vivobook. Within less than 2 months of purchasing the laptop, it started freezing up and crashing on me. I took it to multiple different place to figure out the issue and they couldn't figure it out. I did a hard reset of windows (clearing out all my files) and still it didn't resolve the issue. The worst part of the laptop is the customer service. They make it insanely difficult for me to submit a complaint about the program online and get help (seriously try it yourself, for some reason it is insanely difficult to submit an issue as a US customer). I tried calling their customer service line which is tedious enough to get a hold of and the phone call kept dropping on me. I eventually got an email and I told them my issue. I was so sick of this company and their product, I just wanted to be done with them. Given how recent from the purchase my issue was, I thought they would offer to replace or refund me my cost if I sent it back to them since reselling this piece of junk from my end seems dishonest. I am still been trying to haggle with them about just getting the laptop fixed via email. Just the worst, just find a different laptop
Defectuoso

It's as it's described. Works great. Item as described. MY wife lived it as a Christmas gift. No issues at all s far. My wife uses it for serving the web and research and downloading pics. She does NOT do any high end gaming . Looked nice and clean. Has been repainted as listed in the description but for the money you can't beat it for the price. I like buying refurbished like this. They usually go through a refurbished item with a fine tooth comb and check all the components so anything that might have gone wrong with it when NEW has already been double checked and or fixed at a GREAT savings. Thanks
Great laptop for the price. Amazing quality. Needed a affordable laptop for my mother who is technology challenged. Was simple to set up and didn't come with a bunch of bloatware.
Great product. This item is perfect for office work
Not a fast laptop but good for the price. Bought this laptop for schoolwork, writing and watching videos, and it serves that purpose very well. However, if you plan to play any sort of video games on this laptop, I recommend getting something else as it barely runs Minecraft bedrock edition.
WASTE OF MY MONEY. I only have three problems, I bought this knowing it would meet my low expectations, but I didn’t expect it to be this bad, it’s slow and buggy that’s first, second it doesn’t have enough space to even download a simple game on like steam, downloading a game that’s only 2.37gb takes almost 6 hours, third it refuses to connect to my WiFi?? It says it’s connected but isn’t, I’ve tried so many different attempts on having it connect to internet, but nothing I did worked, so now it’s just sitting on my desk collecting dust, it’s literally useless. I wish I could give this zero stars. WASTE OF MY MONEY, definitely returning this.do not buy this, it’s a piece of junk, i literally don’t even know why anyone would.UPDATE: I was a little harsh at first, I’ve decided on keeping it. ONLY because I can update the ram along with an external hard drive and have it run faster. Still one star. You get what you pay for I guess.
Good. Just what I needed, it arrived and it helps me a lot with my schoolwork and any other project. I recommend it.
Not good for video calls. Depends what you need. Multiple tabs? Slow. Video calls? Drop and no way you can screen share. I should’ve done more research, it’s only 4GB Ram and that’s on me. If you don’t need it to be functional for work then you’re good, but don’t let this be the computer you buy for work from home situation.
high quality. Very clear screen, very fast, ease of setup
