Maybe it takes a $300 laptop so I don't have to deal with built in Alexa-enabled something, HP-specific ports, fingerprint scanner, and other stuff I don't want or need. They don't try anything fancy with this one which for me is a positive. Plus it's TKL keyboard which really should be the new norm. Does not have a backlit keyboard which is a slight miss but for the price it's not a huge deal.You can take it out of S-mode easily and remove a lot of the addons and you have yourself a perfectly functional Windows machine. Despite the lower-tier hardware it still starts up very quickly if you make sure you don't have too much bloatware. Sure it's a little slow at times but if you're using it for day to day tasks it should be fine. Battery life seems very good, the laptop is also fairly lightweight as well. What more could you ask for at this price point.

I have an off-grid solar powered shop and sometimes the battery bank jumps voltage from 51.2 back to 50.. Then I get an obnoxious warning signal and flashing red error light.. I have special software that I use to communicate with my inverter to reset the battery voltage to 51.2. So I use this computer to reset the voltage..The two finger tap for right mouse clicks is clunky and frustrating.. So I got a mouse and a self-adhesive mouse pouch and stuck it to the computer.. The computer works fine now..

However, extremely disappointed in this whole S mode business, which is a Windows thing not unique to HP, so I had to switch out of it to download apps that I usually use (including MICROSOFT Teams! I don't know why that's not "safe" for S mode). Processing speed is very slow, even with only one Internet browser open. I can no longer multitask on Zoom meetings because the audio starts to cut out and lag when I switch windows. I also had a lifetime Microsoft 365 subscription, but I was unable to transfer it to this laptop (again, general Windows issue). Moderately disappointed with this laptop given the positive reviews but I will manage...

One died and another is on its last leg, as the screen became detached from the keyboard. The only one that remains on the PC scale is an 11.6 HP I bought after this one which is super slow and has a poor camera. The Apple is ok but needs a battery. Then I have four chromebooks of different sizes from 11.6 to 15.6. This fits in the middle at 14 inches. The design is slick and very flat. It looks like a mac. It feels lighter than the others which are described as heavier. I think because of the design. It has a white keyboard which is the best thing next to a lit keyboard. I purposely looked for a white keyboard. The computer works fine dependent on what you want to do. I like to do light programming, store and edit pictures, writing, internet, music, movies, and games. It is not a powerhouse but it can do alot more than the HP PC I also got (11.6) for about the same price. This works so much better. It works better than the other chromebooks. The camera is better than the HP PC. But the best thing is the amazing battery life. You will get 12 hours easy. The battery does not drain when closed. Other chromebooks have died after a couple of days of just being closed. Not this one. It uses the same plug for my android. This gives you charging options virtually everywhere.Overall a good purchase. Best Chromebook I got and better than the 11.6 HP PC. The apple beats it of course, but the battery on this one makes up for any glaring deficiences.

I ordered the 256GB model with Windows 11, intended for use as a simple work/schoolwork laptop.Here are my notes:- Setup was fairly intensive for a windows device, many apps had issues and I had to restart about 11 times to get all of the prerequisite updates installed after the initial setup.- Keyboard and Touchpad have had no issues- Battery life is as listed- Isn't a special Valentines version of the laptop, simply has a red cover- Instead of having a 256GB SSD it came with a 128GB SSD with a 128GB flash drive in the box- Came installed with Windows 11 S, requiring additional setup to deactivate if you want to install any non-microsoft store apps. Customer service was unhelpful with this.- Camera quality is poor, however is fine for video calls- Speakers aren't high quality, but not bad for the price- Comes preinstalled with apps that took up over half of the 128GB storage, many were unnecessary, but weren't hard to uninstall- Comes with 2 USB ports (1 per side), 1 HDMI port, 1 USB C port, and the charging port

For some reason you can only see the truth about this product after navigating to the sellers page vs the reviews posted here on the front page which are the ones I pay attention to….I called HP for help setting up device bc I already have acct w HP for my printer.I only learned after being on an almost 2 hour call that these laptops are “modified” by the seller wha h voids manufacture warranty.I didn’t purchase Asurion warranty bc I planned to register my device w my HP account and use the factory warranty.Now I can’t buy the Asurion warranty.Now I have no choice but to return it bc HP told me the device was not deigned for 16 RAM, its designed for 4 and the device is going to run into trouble and guess what-it has no warranty!!!!Total false advertising. These are modified devices. There was no way for me to know this based on how this product page is set up. Also I only found out bc I happened to call HP after having trouble downloading apps and the tech pointed it out.I am glad I found out now rather than months down the road once the device doesn’t work at all…

★★★★★ Amazing Convertible Device. I needed a tablet with a large screen. I did not want a dedicated tablet as they require a keyboard and stand for any real work. Instead of spending $1400 on a large fruit tablet I found this for $400. It comes with all the basics, a vibrant screen with 14” of area. 8GB of RAM 128GB NVME SSD and an Intel 8 core processor with UHD graphics. What I love about the Aspire Spin 3 is the build quality. The keyboard has good feedback. The trackpad is usable! The built in speakers are okay in a pinch but there is Bluetooth to hook up a wireless speaker for presentations or a headset. I ended up uninstalling some bloateare but it was minimal. There are two full sized USB-A high speed ports for memory sticks, hard drives or whatever you want to use. There is also a Dual mode USB-C port that can output video, charge the battery, or transfer data. The HDMI port is 2.1. The WiFi is the AX101 from Intel and it does a fantastic job with my WiFi 6 router. I thought the RAM capacity would be limiting but with the ultra fast NVME SSD I have not run into any issues. It plays 4K YouTube videos flawlessly. As first there was some backlight bleed but after handling the device for a few test scenarios it has gone away. It does not get super bright so outside direct sun should be avoided unless you invest in an anti glare screen coating. Windows 11 came in S mode and it was easy to disable in the Microsoft Store. Now I can install apps from the internet like Firefox , Chrome and whatever I need like my hardware monitoring tools. This is a steal and fantastic value for the money. Next step is to install Steam and Skyrim Anniversary Edition.

The best contrast on your keyboard is a black background on the keys, with white characters, or arguably, vice-versa. With high contrast, we easily see the keys we need and can work painlessly.I bought this computer in the pink color as that was the only one available for next-day shipping. I'd never owned a computer in anything but black/white/gray, so it didn't even occur to me that the contrast could be a problem with this model. Surely you can trust the computer companies to take care of things like this, right? It's such a simple thing, and so easy and cheap to take care of. Make the characters darker, or the keys lighter, or to be sure, do both!Wrong. This pink nightmare is as low-contrast as you get. Mauve keys are matched with gray letters, numbers, and symbols. When you sit up straight to type, the right side of the keyboard virtually vanishes. It's almost impossible to type when the keys seem blank. If you stick your face right above the keys, and sit hunched over, it's fine - you can see all the keys. That's not a good way to type!After chatting at length with hp, it came down to it's my problem and I'll have to buy a new skin for the keyboard. Anyone with one brain cell would be able to see the problems with this keyboard, but instead of fixing it, they shove the problem off onto consumers who were foolish enough to buy an HP product. Great customer service, HP!I bought this computer as a temporary laptop to use as my other computer is dying. I was skeptical about the 16bg RAM at first but I was able to open up and confirm that is sure is a 16GB DDR4 3200mhz stick. 🙂 Performs as expected due to low end processor but meets my needs for browsing, streaming and downloading large files to an external hard drive. I don't mind leaving this thing on all night due to it's low power consumption and also radiates very little heat. One hundred dollars for a practically new laptop with 16gb RAM is a great deal.

At first, they were ok, but within a couple of weeks they became VERY slow and would crash if you had more than one software application running. They were basically unusable. Unfortunately, we had spent a lot of time installing software on them so I really didn't want to return them if I could help it. I decided to try an upgrade to the memory before I sent them back. I ordered actual HP branded 32 GB DDR4 So-DIMM memory sticks and sure enough they now are working just fine. The laptops are "upgraded" when you buy them to 16GB using "ADATA" branded memory and of course that memory's warranty is void if you remove it. So I'm out the cost of the new memory but at least I have functional computers. Also, the HD is only 64 GB and is already full. If you plan on using this for online only these are probably fine, but if you want to install anything, spend a little more money and get a machine with better memory and a bigger HD.I rated this a 3, the computer is a decent computer, but the upgraded memory for me was a big miss.

I got the core i5 10th gen and I am absolutely happy with my purchase. I had thought about getting a mac but price wise it was out of range. The pavilion is very smooth and crisp in a way. I use it for online class and I have to run some programs for my science classes. It has NOT let me down. I've been using it for about a month now and it still works like new. The setup took me like 15 minutes when I first got it. The only things that I believe could be a con for some is that the battery will not last a whole day. I start class at around 8:20 am and around 12 pm the battery is dead, there is a battery saver button tho and it usually let's my battery last an extra hour or so. Tablet mode is fun, I don't usually use it so I have no comment on that. Regardless, very good product for the price. Would 100% recommend for college students. I don't think this would be a good choice for gaming tho. (sorry for the stickers!)Edit: it has been almost a year since I bought this laptop. It's very sturdy tho it seems light, I've dropped it a few times and it doesn't have a scratch on it. I take it with me on my backpack (usually besides my tennis racket) again, no dents or scratches. I dropped water on it too a few times, works like new (not saying that it is waterproof, maybe I was lucky) but very strong overall. I've taken a few coding classes that include python, HTML, and CSS and it runs it with no problem. It is very fast, very very fast, personally I keep photos, music, documents and such in an USB which leaves my laptop pretty empty so it could be because of that. Camera is pretty good, gets you through zoom, speakers are good as well. Overall, a year later and I still think this laptop is a 5/5.

Once I got everything set up, the computer is exactly right for me in every way except the built-in mouse. There’s plenty of storage/memory, the touchscreen works well, graphics look sharp, the screen is just the right size, and I love the 360 convertible feature. I don’t use the tablet mode often yet, but it makes watching videos and playing online games easier. It was easy to set up my preferences for what to do when I turn the lid in different directions. The laptop is lightweight and easy to tote around. The power button is on the side, which can be inconvenient. I have unintentionally put my computer in sleep mode a couple of times by picking up the laptop and inadvertently pressing that button. I have changed the setup so that nothing happens when I hit the power button.Now to my one complaint. I’m not a fan of a mouse with no actual buttons for left/right clicking. This laptop has one where you use the lower left or right corner of the built-in mouse, and it doesn’t always seem to work quite right. When a portion of text is highlighted, for example, you should be able to left-click to “un-highlight” it, but I find I have to click 2 or 3 times. The mouse surface is ultra-sensitive and causes the cursor to jump around and/or highlight portions of the screen when I feel like I haven’t done anything but blink. I’ll think I have the cursor placed where I want it, I start typing, but my text goes in a completely different part of the document. I’m guessing I’ll get used to it and figure out how to work with it, but it’s really driving me crazy at the moment. (I’ve been using the computer for a week.) I know I’ve spent a lot of time complaining about one feature, but it’s an important one. And yes, I can use an external mouse, but that makes the laptop less portable.Overall, I’m pretty happy with the laptop, especially since I got such a good deal on it. I’m hoping to get used to the mouse.

However, I am so happy with the rest of the laptop that I have chosen to ignore the number of times I have to hook up to charge. Overall, it's a very good laptop which I did not think I would say based on the first one I got. I gave it four stars because of all the problems with the first laptop.About a year later, my battery is almost useless. This would be a great computer except for the fact that HP did not put quality into this machine. I almost need to keep the power cord plugged into the laptop to get it to run, and even then, I am seeing issues. Given that this is the second laptop from HP and that the battery is shot already, DONT BUY THIS LAPTOP

I used it one day and the other day it did not let me to log in as it is asking me for a Bitlocker recovery which I never created. It is impossible as I do not have it. ★★★★★ The best laptop I’ve owned. I love how easy it is to use this laptop the sound quality is worth the money alone. I love how easy it is to use for personal use or for growing a business. I love how you can use a mouse or use the touch screen feature if you don’t want to use a mouse. The screen size is just as described and the overall performance of this laptop is 5 stars from me!!

★★★★☆ Be Careful What You Buy. SOME WORDS TO THE WISE. Overall, I'm satisfied with these HP17x laptops. BUT!!! There are a couple things to be WELL AWARE of, before buying. First, and FOREMOST. A word of caution! As most everyone knows, Microsoft has, for quite some time, been transitioning truly from a software company into a retail sales company. That fact is abundantly clear! Now, be well aware of what Microsoft has done in its latest versions of WIN11-HOME. Many (perhaps most???, perhaps all???) Windows11-HOME based computers are delivered with the OS in "S-Mode." We run HP desktop and laptop computers exclusively, so I can speak only to my several more recent HP purchases. However, I no longer subscribe to WIN11-HOME. All of my recent purchases have been ordered with the WIN11-PRO OS. My advice to those considering buying any computer preloaded with WIN11-HOME: "stay well away." "S-Mode", does not allow the user to load any 3rd-party software. All software must be obtained (think $$$$$) from the MS Store. While MS claims that the procedure required to exit "S-Mode" is quite simple, in fact, we've found that it is nearly IMPOSSIBLE!!! And, it will require the involvement of MS 'off-shore' tech assistance, which is not necessarily easily obtained. One such call that I received, after HOURS of waiting, arrived at 2AM. If buying an HP17x laptop, order with WIN11-PRO. PRO versions are not restricted by "S-Mode" software. Now, to the computer. Typical of HP products, this laptop is well built, with an excellent display. Ports are somewhat limited, but, for me, that is not a deal-breaker. I like having the 32GB of RAM, and at least 1TB of storage. I expect these laptops to be more than adequate into the foreseeable future. My one complaint with these, and it is critical, is that the integral cooling system is WHOLLY inadequate. When used for long periods of time, especially on mains power, which we do, these computers will run HOT!!! My take on that is, putting an engineer and an accountant together, on any design project, inevitably results in trouble. In an effort to make this laptop as slim and as light-weight as possible, the internal cooling apparatus has suffered for it. In these, the CPU does generate a lot of heat. The air duct is quite small and narrow, and the internal fan is a joke, except that it's not. So!!! Buy a serious laptop cooler, to go along with your laptop purchase. And, I don't mean one of those multi-fan, USB powered units, that generate heat to remove heat. High quality, AC/DC-adapter powered gaming type coolers are available from Amazon. You'll be happy you made the purchase. At first, battery life is quite short, but we've seen that over time (repeated charge/discharge cycles) battery life does improve some. In our case, having to use mains powered coolers, we simply use mains power for our laptops, and we don't rely much on battery power. Of course, bear in mind that having to have access to AC power does diminish the practicability of using a laptop computer, in the first place. The HP17x series are big computers with a healthy display. One minor complaint is the lack of a backlit keyboard. But, for the money (around $500), these were still a good buy.
